NRA Issued ALERT AGAINST Forsyth County Sheriff

May 5, 2014

Last year, the NRA issued an alert against Schatztman during the legislative battle over NC HB 937.  This flies in the face of his claims to be pro-2nd amendment.

Schatzman and the NC Sheriff’s Association went on record against the bill.  National and state 2nd amendment groups such as the National Rifle Association (NRA), Gun Owners of America, National Association of Gun Rights (NAGR), and Grass Roots North Carolina (GRNC) were in favor of HB 937.  When all was said and done, the bill passed and GRNC began a new evaluation process for NC sheriff’s on gun issues.

Dave Griffith, candidate for Forsyth County Sheriff,  participated in the GRNC evaluation process.  While the incumbent scored in the low 80’s, Griffith scored 100%.  Subsequently, GRNC endorsed Griffith for Forsyth County Sheriff.

Of course, the ONLY Gun Rights group even remotely willing to endorse Schatzman was the NRA.  They have also endorsed or openly supported weak 2nd amendment candidates Thom Tillis, Mitch McConnell, John McCain and in the past, Harry Reid.

Because of consistent mistakes such as this by the NRA, many defenders
of the 2nd Amendment have dropped their support of this organization.
These activitsts have mobilized their strength via more accountable
organizations such as NAGR and GRNC.  GRNC has taken Schatzman to task
on more than one occasion over the course of his tenure as Forsyth
County Sheriff.  SEE LIST OF Schatzman ANTI-2ND AMENDMENT INFRACTIONS.

Quoting GRNC:

This demonstrates that the NRA is either now lying about Schatzman’s history, or else they are too incompetent to remember it. Either way, they are wrong.  Moreover, despite Bledsoe’s assertions to the contrary, GRNS’s concerns about Schatzman are both “timely” and “accurate.”  Not only have we exchanged messages with Schatzman many times, he returned GRNC’s candidate survey with a mediocre 83%, as opposed to Dave Griffith’s 100%.

In truth, it was GRNC who “outed” Schatzman’s demands for employer contact information from concealed handgun applicants, not the NRA.  Nor did Schatzman reverse the policy “within days.”  It took three weeks of repeated communications from the GRNC president Paul Valone, the threat of litigation, and a GRNC alert which deluged Schatzman with irate phone calls and emails, all of which are documented,

Every time Schatzman claims to be pro-gun, re-read this LIST OF INFRACTIONS and remind yourself that action speaks louder…much louder, than words.
