SBI Timeline Lays Scandal at Don Martin’s Feet

March 15, 2014

Don Martin is challenging incumbent Mark Baker for District B Forsyth County Commissioners.

Donald Martin served as Superintendent of Forsyth County Schools for 19
years. He served from 1994 until July 29, 2013. According to the SBI,
from 1998 until 2012, at least 20 allegations of criminal activity or
sexual misconduct were internally investigated by the school
administration and not turned over to law enforcement authorities. The
Winston Salem Journal published an SBI timeline here.

These
internal investigations all occurred during the tenure of
Superintendent Don Martin.  The SBI concluded its investigation the
same month Don Martin retired.  The investigation resulted in charges brought
against three former teachers.  I find the timing suspect.

Somehow Martin avoided
all accountability for his lack of attention and supervision of WSFCS
while children were being victimized over and over again by teachers.  One teacher was accused yet worked four years until he was terminated. Untenable.

As children’s lives were ruined, someone was sweeping this under the rug.  I want to know who.
