Bullying my Bully Pulpit…Talking Straight is MY CHARM!

Oddly enough, my right to opinion has been questioned twice this day by two conservative groups.  I find it odd.  Just in case my reader is confused.  I do not represent any political group other than Christian Conservative.  I express OPINION on this site plus I aggregate relevant news for today’s Patriotic, Constitutionalist, Christian citizen.  That’s it.  I’m not the New York Times OR the Winston Salem Journal.  As my profile states, I am a proud grandma worried about the country my grandbabies are going to inherit.  I don’t owe allegiance to anything or anyone but GOD, my Church, my family, my country, the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence.  Nobody pays me for the 8 to 10 hours a day I put into meetings, blogging, or campaigning.  Anyone reading this has the same opportunity to start their own blog, write, aggregate, bible study or pray online.  Don’t complain that I take the opportunity.  I am like the TV.  You can turn me off with a keystroke if you don’t like what I say.

Below is my response to what appeared to be a lecture questioning my integrity, my activism, and my right to free speech.

Dear Chris,

Thank you for your communication. This is the 2nd time in one day that a “party” has attempted to question my right to opinion. My blog is called Stringing and Strowing – News, OPINION, Life. I commend you for not outright asking me to remove my opinion.

My concern here is that neither the GOP or, apparently, the Tea Party is taking into consideration my fundamental first amendment right to free speech. I would have hoped that both of these “branches” of conservatism would have fought to the death for my right to free speech but clearly this is not the case.  It is a shame that rather than embrace those of us who energetically blog, protest, travel, write and call our representatives, walk our neighborhoods, work the polls, invite the uninvited into the political process…we are alienated and cursed for our effectiveness.

Jones, Tabor, and I are on the same team. My goal is to bring honor, conservatism, and GOD back into our government and political process. Shining a light on a problem or potential problem is not wrong. It might be considered politically incorrect for the thin skinned politicians of today but it is not wrong. I could care less about political correctness or my personal popularity. As far as I am concerned, the devil hides in the darkness and truth is the tool that eliminates the darkness. If simple old me observes what appears to be inconsistency in a candidate, a party, or a politician’s vote…it means that many others have observed the same inconsistency. Call me the canary in the coal mine. Killing me does not negate the fact that poison is present that will destroy everyone.

The dust up as you have called it, has been greatly over magnified. I have a tool on my blog called Google Analytics that shows me exactly how many time a particular story has been read, what day it has been read, and how long they read it. This particular story was read 30 times total. That’s it. Out of 74,192 Republicans in Forsyth County (according to Civitas) only 30 have read this article. I’m sure some of those were repeats. I will be glad to show you the chart. My point…someone is making a mountain out of a mole hill.

If you have noticed, my site is not monetized. I don’t buy Adwords. I don’t advertise. Nobody pays me to write. It is my personal account of life and times written to archive MY life for MY grandchildren. I have no idea how this bunch of complainers found me. If this small group of vocal and thin skinned people don’t like what I have to say…they can refrain from visiting my site. If they do not want to be my facebook friend, they can DELETE me. I have not claimed to be an official emissary of the GOP, the TEA PARTY, or any other organization. My blog is MY BULLY PULPIT. I write what I want, delete comments I don’t like, and warn people in my profile…if you don’t want to hear my Christian Conservative opinion, here is your hat, what is your hurry. I am handing these 30 or less folks their hats.

You asked me to tone down my rhetoric and hyperbole.  I am a writer. Since rhetoric is the art of using language to communicate effectively, I won’t be able to help you with that request. Unfortunately the hyperbole part helps me get my point across. In fact, it is similar to a cartoonist when he exaggerates a caricature of a politician.

In case you are unaware, in the spirit of fairness and out of the kindness of my heart, I posted, prior to receiving your correspondence, an update to the article stating the official position of the NC Tea Party as expressed by Wendy Wood. I have also posted the GOP official statement as well as Americans For Prosperity’s statement.

Every time someone attempts to bully me into giving up my right to free speech, I will post another article telling the world of their effort. So it is probably best to save the pontifications for poorly vetted candidates.

As I said, we are on the same team. Whether the Tea Party, the GOP, the complainers or the candidates choose to believe is their personal business.  I’m just a Conservative Christian grandmother writing a historical blog for her grand kids.  Get over it.

Sincerely,  Sandra Robles

UPDATE:  Apparantly there is some confusion over the definition of “Bully Pulpit.”  Rather than offer my weak attempt at definition, allow me to offer Wikipedia’s version. Wikipedia defines it as “a term coined by President Theodore Roosevelt, who referred to the White House as a “bully pulpit,” by which he meant a terrific platform from which to advocate an agenda. Roosevelt famously used the word bully as an adjective meaning “superb” or “wonderful” (a more common expression in his time than it is today); the term has no relationship to the noun bully, i.e. a harasser or someone who intimidates.”

As in “my blog is a terrific platform from which to advocate my agenda.”  Apparently, our society has lost command of the English language.  Yet another reason to home school.
