Drugmakers May Fund $100 Million Ad Campaign on Health Overhaul – Bloomberg.com: "

July 28 (Bloomberg) — Drugmakers may ramp up their push for an overhaul of the U.S. health care system by spending $100 million on ads starting as early as September, said a person familiar with the discussion.

Drugmakers have said they will fight efforts by Congress to allow drugs to be imported into the U.S. from Canada, where they are sold for less. No such proposal has been made under the current health care overhaul being discussed by Congress and the White House.
“We are strongly against reimportation from a safety standpoint,” Richard T. Clark, chief executive officer of Merck & Co., said July 21 in a telephone interview. “If it is an issue, we will have to fight that because we think that is the wrong thing to do from a patient standpoint.”

Pfizer Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Kindler said the industry supports the current health-overhaul proposal by the Obama administration. Pfizer opposes importing drugs from Canada or allowing the U.S. government to directly negotiate Medicare Part D drug prices.

The television ads will run for three weeks and cost about $4 million. Families USA, a Washington- based nonprofit group, and PhRMA are paying for the commercials.

Stringing and Strowing says:

The fight ain’t over till its over. These marxists will be amping up their fight for socialized medicine no matter what the president or talking heads say. The idea that the democrats have given in by giving up claiming “It’s official, No Health Plan” is a mirage. It is through deceit that they intend to pull the wool over American eyes once again. Do NOT BUY INTO THE IDEA THAT GRASS ROOTS WON THE FIGHT. The Congressional August recess is over, NOT THE FIGHT FOR CONSTITUTIONAL HEALTH CARE REFORM. Pay close attention to the organizations supporting this next advertising Blitz of 100 million…Did you get that…ONE HUNDRED MILLION Dollars!!!!

Families USA is a liberal advocacy group. They are supports of socialist-style universal healthcare and their political allies include liberal Democratic politicians such as Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and former Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.). On its Web site, the group denounced conservative-friendly policies such as former President Bush’s Healthcare Tax Deduction Proposal as well as Health Savings Accounts. The goal of Families USA is socialized medicine. They explain that those without insurance, particularly minorities, are “the workers and caregivers who provide needed services” as opposed to people who “just want a handout.”

PhRMA, The parmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, has joined labor leaders in pushing Obama’s Death Care reform. According to the Bloomberg article, “In just the last four months, the industry has spent $68 million on lobbying in Washington, assuring its continued standing atop the nation’s lobbyist spending list.

Bloomberg also talks to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). He is a champion of importing drugs from Canada and reducing the cost of pharmaceuticals, and he professes continued suspicion of the industry, including its deals with the White House. He said,“The drug companies form the most powerful lobby in Washington,” he said. “They never lose.”

In other words, when PhRMA talks YOUR money walks. Your money is currently “walking” out of your wallet into PhRMA’s over their promise from our government to not pursue Medicare rebates or shift some drugs from Medicare Part B to Medicare Part D. Our government had a choice before they made this “promise” to big PhRMA. Big PhRMA billions in reduced reimbursements vs. consumer/taxpayer savings. It went kind of like this in the government brains…These give…those don’t…unions…votes…. Ooops, sorry. Consumer/tax payers lose.

Also making recent news was a memo obtained by the Huffington Post. In the memo, the White House agreed to oppose any congressional efforts to use the government’s leverage to bargain for lower drug prices or import drugs from Canada. So when faced with choice…Big PhRMA billions in reduced profits vs. consumer/taxpaer savings. Dang! Out of luck again! YOU LOSE. Hmmmm. Guess Sen. Sanders was correct in his accessment of the power of big PhRMA. This group is firmly in bed with the Obama organization.

Like I said, the fight ain’t over till it’s over. This one is just getting started.
